Afgelopen week was ik op bezoek bij mijn vader, die samen met zijn vrouw Gabi en kids Alex en Andreas in Nederland verblijft. Gabi, een echte Roemeense, vertelde me toen over dag één in Nederland:
"I went to the Albert Heijn to get some stuff and I took both guys with me. Alex was walking next to me and Andreas was sitting in the caddie. I needed to buy quite a lot of things so I had to take a shopcarrier. But now, I had a problem: how was I going to push both of the caddies?! Well now, in Romania it is very normal to leave your baby at the entrance of a shop, because it's easy and no one will take your child with him. So, I decided to leave Andreas at the entrance of the Albert Heijn and I went shopping. Then, about five minutes later, some hysterious, almost screaming girl came up running to me.."
Girl: "Did you just leave your baby at the entrance??!!"
Gabi: "Yes I did."
Girl: "How could you do that?!"
Gabi: "What's the problem? Is he crying?"
Girl: "Uh, no?"
Gabi: "Well, what's the problem then?"
Girl: "Uh, you can't just leave your baby alone!"
Gabi: "Why not?!"
Girl: "You just can't! There are a lot of upset people over there right now and we were about to call the police!"
Gabi: "Oh.. I'm sorry! But now you're watching over him, can I go on shopping?"
